Coninued getting "preparing automatic repair" message followed by blank screen.  Tried to create media for WIN10 from MS website and start with that..... No avail

The failure Code just tells us it is outside the boundaries of workable performance. It has failed some one or more SMART tests. In most cases the drive will still be accessible to recover data. You don't even need to use one of those "clean room" very expensive services. Just get a USB to SATA adapter. However, the drive is no longer suitable for a system hard drive. Stop trying to access the drive and run recovery disks and such on it. This is actually diminishing the chances of successful data recovery.

Nothing other than replacing the hard drive is going to help.
