HP Spectre X360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Bought the HP Spectre 360 In March 2017, had a few issues with the sound/speaker but other than that a superb laptop.  However, in March 2019, just as the warranty expired,  it started crashing frequently and the fans were becoming noisy.   I returned to the High Street Store which I purchased it from to be told they would send it to their technical department to be assessed but if anything was faulty then I would have to pay for the repair.  I threw lots of consumer rights knowledge at them, particularly referring to the 'should last a reasonable time' but they weren't interested.  I received a call to say both the fans were faulty and would cost £105 to be replaced.  I reluctantly paid this.   One week later I received a phone call from them. I was expecting to be told the laptop was ready to be collected but no, it was to be told there was another fault and the main board (assuming this is the mother board) needed replacing at a cost of £650!!!   Once again, I pointed out that the warranty had only expired one month earlier but again it fell on deaf ears.  So, I have two questions.  The first being, would the motherboard have been faulty from when I bought the laptop and gradually died or can it acquire a fault at any point in it's life. [edited] Thanks
