HP Spectre x360 - 15 - df1033dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My problem is exactly what many others have described here, for example, Jtalbot221's post on 10-25-19.  I bought what looked like a fantastic new HP Spectre laptop over the holidays, and just when I got it all set up with new software, etc., it completely died!  Pushing the power button has no effect whatsoever.

I tried all the troubleshooting fixes I could find on HP's support web site - holding the power button down for 20+ seconds with the power cord removed to do a hard reset; doing that while holding down various key combinations to reset the BIOS; etc., and got absolutely no response from the laptop.

The power button LED blinks once every 4-5 seconds, and the power plug LED blinks with about the same frequency when the laptop is plugged in, but those are the only signs of "life".  I now own a $1,500 paperweight!  And I had such high hopes for my new PC.

I see that HP Support has replied to similar posts from others.  HP, if you're listening, PLEASE get in touch with me soon, so I can figure out what to do about this before the return window for holiday purchases expires.

Again, the model is the HP Spectre x360 - 15 - df1033dx, running Windows 10 64-bit.

I'd greatly appreciate any help anyone reading can give me.   Thank you!

Is HP Support still monitoring these forums?  Would someone please respond?  Thanks.

@BobP174 Greetings from the HP Community!

When you post more than ones the time to respond to you get's delayed as the post reset's each time, posting multiple times may also send your post into the spam box, hence we don't recommend you do that!

That out of the way, here's what I need to know:

Have you attempted to connect the device to an alternate power cord or adapter?

Or check with another wall outlet, excluding any surge protectors to check if it works?

While you respond to that, here's the best way to resolve the issue, using the HP Guided Troubleshooter:

CLICK HERE FOR STEP BY STEP GUIDE

(simply select your description of the issue from the bottom of the screen to gain access to the next set of steps that should resolve your concern).

If the above doesn't help or the steps are insufficient, check the below steps:

Let's start with a hard reset of your notebook computer before you try any other troubleshooting steps.

Reasons for a hard reset

A hard reset has the following effects:

  • Clears the memory.

  • Reestablishes the connection between the BIOS and the hardware

The following conditions can be helped by the hard reset:

  • Windows stop responding.

  • The display suddenly goes blank.

  • The computer does not wake from sleep or hibernate modes.

  • Software applications freeze or fail to respond.
