HP Spectre x360 battery drain issue when shut-down.

HP Spectre x360 13-w050nw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I've recetnly bought brand new hp spectre x360 13and it has a obvious problem with a battery.  The battery is getting drained when the laptop is shut-down(yes, complytly shut-down not in a sleep mode). It can drain about 8-10% battery per night, what is kinda annoying and unacceptable for high-end laptop.

I'm wondering if this is due to a problem with the battery or if it is caused by some kind of setting that causing the computer not shut-downing properly.

I've already disabled USB power option in BIOS. It didn't help.

Would really appreciate your help. I think this is not a common thing in a new laptop.

HP Spectre x360 battery drain issue when shut-down.

Hi! @mwoss, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand that battery drains on your laptop when the laptop has shut down.

Don't worry I will try to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?

Please update BIOS on your PC and let me know if this helps.

Link to update BIOS.

Please try the steps recommended below.

If the computer starts and you would like to test the AC adapter, use the following steps:
Make sure the power cord and adapter are connected to the system and wall outlet.
Press and hold the power button until the computer turns off completely.
Turn on the computer.
Immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second, until the UEFI Hardware Diagnostics screen is displayed.
In the UEFI Main menu,    select Component Tests.
In the Component Tests menu, select Power
Select battery test and let me know the results.

Refer this article to further troubleshoot battery issues.

I'll keep an eye out for your response.

I hope you have a great day! :)

>"Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?"
No. I didn't. Just windows and recomended by hp assistnat softwere updates.
>"Please update BIOS on your PC and let me know if this helps. "
Done. Testing also. I left(shut-down) laptop with 43% of battery for 2 hours, after this time battery showed 41%.
>"Please try the steps recommended below."
Also done. UEFI tells that battery status is OK.
What should I do now? (Sorry for that formating. I've clicked something and ever lines is treated like quote. Don't know how to undo this : /)

HP Spectre x360 battery drain issue when shut-down.

@mwoss, Thanks for your response and time.

I appreciate your efforts for trying out the steps.

As you mentioned that before shutting down the laptop the charge was 43% after some time the battery drained to 41%.

Don't worry try the steps recommended below.

Turn off the fast boot on your PC and check if it helps. Try the steps mentioned below.

Type Control Panel in the search box.
Click Control Panel.
Click Power Options.
Click Choose what the power buttons do.
Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
Scroll down to Shutdown settings and uncheck Turn on fast startup.
Click Save changes.

If the issue still persists, try the steps mentioned below.

* Open Device Manager
* For each hardware listed, open Properties
* Is there a `Power Management` tab?
* If yes, ensure `Allow this device to wake the computer` is NOT selected
* Click Ok (and move onto next hardware entry)

Let me know how it goes!

Have a wonderful day ahead! :)

HP Spectre x360 battery drain issue when shut-down.

Hi @mwoss,

Thanks for the update,

I appreciate your time and efforts,

As I understand you have followed the steps suggested in the previous post and still having the issue, don't worry we'll try few other steps which should help to resolve the issue,

You will need to Understand Lithium-Ion and Smart Battery Technology: Click here for details

Resetting the ACPI battery driver may take care of this. There will be a hard reset mixed in as well, so the two methods combined typically help a lot with battery issues.

1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.

2. Expand batteries.

3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.

4. Shut down the computer.

5. Disconnect the charger.

6. Remove the battery.

7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.

8. Insert the battery only.

9. Attempt to turn the battery on.

If this had an impact, it should behave differently.

If not, Press the power button and then tap the F2 key to invoke the startup menu.

Choose and click on the F10 key to invoke the BIOS.

Use the System Configuration tab. Disable USB Charging and press the F10 key to save the changes and boot into Windows.

Keep me posted,

If you are able to reach some resolution, please click on Accept Solution to help others with similar issues.

If you appreciate my assistance, please click on the thumbs up icon.

Both icons are below this post.

Have a good day, Ahead.

"6. Remove the battery."

I don't think it's a good idea on my ultrabook. Battery is not removable.  Won't proceed next steps.

Hi @mwoss,

Thank you for replying,

As I understand the battery on your HP laptop is nonremovable, so you could actually skip that step and proceed with the next step.

Please do perform the steps I had suggested as well and get back to me with the results for further assistance.
