Hello everyone,

 

Last night I was using my laptop to study for my midterm this morning. When I tried to turn on my laptop this morning it wouldn’t turn on, suspecting it might have been out of charge I plugged in the power cable (usb c) only to see the charging light wouldn’t go on and the laptop still wont turn on. I tried both charging ports, different power adapters, and different wall outlets but the laptop won’t charge. I’ve had this laptop since 2017 and I have never had an issue with the laptop at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I’m a student and can’t afford to buy a new laptop at this time. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I pulled the back panel off and disconnected/reconnected all the connections I could see, and to my amazement the laptop charged and booted up after a few minutes. Inspected the motherboard and there were no burns to be seen. I guess those connections can come loose over time, just glad I didn’t have to purchase a new laptop!

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Did you make any changes on the settings of your PC prior to the issue?
  • When was the last time it worked fine?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps: 

Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8. (Refer to the removable and sealed battery)
BIOS default:(do not skip any troubleshooting steps even if you feel steps are repeating)

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and    Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Probably a burned out motherboard just like mine. I have this occur with TWO Spectre x360s in as many years...one a 15" and the other a 17". See my post on the 18th of February (yesterday) re: burned out motherboards. When you read the history in the forums this is a KNOWN issue that HP has neglected to address going back as far as 2017!

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I did go through the product specs of your HP Spectre x360 and found out that there's no recall program was called out. As we have limited support boundaries in the support community as of now.
