HP Pavilion Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have HP truevision HD web camera in my laptop (HP Pavilion Notebook). When I try to use the camera, it appears as black (nothing display). I checked the device manager and it seem to be fine. I did try to update the driver, uninstall it and reinstall it back. However, I still can not use the web camera.

really need your help.

Thanks.

@Haniza Check the anti-virus program settings & ensure it isn't blocking the camera and the same should resolve the issue, if this doesn't help, try the below steps:

here's a few steps to resolve the issue, start with checking for the webcam kill switch (if available on your model, if not: click here & follow the steps) and ensure its turned on,

That said, If your webcam has stopped working after installing a new update, you should uninstall the update and roll back to the older version. You will have to open Device Manager > right-click on the device > select Properties > switch to Driver tab > click on Roll Back Driver button > select Yes on the next window. After that, you need to restart your PC to check whether it is working.

If that doesn't work or there were no updates before the issue occurred, you might need to uninstall the webcam driver.

To do this, open Device Manager > right-click on the device > select Properties > switch to Driver tab > click on Uninstall Device button.

Restart your computer and then open Device Manager again and click on Action > Scan for hardware changes. (this would automatically reinstall the best drivers for it)

Once done, I suggest you install all the latest pending Windows updates as below and check if it helps.

  1. Go to “settings” and click on “update and security”.
  2. Under tab “Windows update”, click on the icon “check for updates”.
  3. Then once you find the pending updates install it and check.

Dear Riddle_Decipher,

1. I have checked the anti-virus. (not blocking the webcam)
2. In my model there is no kill switch available
3. the Roll Back Driver button is enable for me to click. Therefore, i can't try this method.
4. I did try uninstall and install it back. No luck as well
5. I try installing window update but not solving the problem

For your information, the light is on (for the camera) it look like it is working but it appears as black screen.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,
