HP Z Turbo Drive performance degradation in ZBook Studio G3

ZBook Studio G3
Linux

We are experiencing a serious performance degradation with the 256Gb NVMe HP Z Turbo Drive SSD in the ZBook Studio G3. It happens with 2 identical ZBooks we ordered so it's not onefold problem.

When I received this machine early February, the SSD read performance (as measured with hdparm on linux) was over 2200Mb/s, now it's slighly over 1500 Mb/s and it seems to degrade continuously, based on past weeks' measurements. I did a manual trim on the drive using fstrim now and it trimmed 1.5Gb of data, but read performance is still "only" around 1600 Mb/s.

I recall having similar problems with a Samsung 840 Evo drive previously - a firmware upgrade solved that case back then. Is this problem with the Z Turbo Drive something similar? Could it be solved with a firmware upgrade on the drive? Anyone's working on that already?

If other windows users have no such problems, it makes me wonder if it's not a problem with the Linux drivers..

Any linux users around to confirm this problem?

Mine read speed is currently at 1528MB/s. Is there a version of Samsung's utility which I could run either from Linux or booted from a pendrive? I wonder if it would report a different speed..

I found a samsung magician DC for Linux, though not sure if it is the same but you may give it a try.

Yeah I found it meanwhile.. it claims there's no Samsung SSD detected in the machine.

The app itself is for their regular SSD's but I installed it for the benchmarking utility. Though it does show Drive Information as: Samsung MZVPV512 so it is recognizing it and showing firmware BXW74H0Q

I mean the linux version (Magician DC) reports:

[root@manta ~]# magician --list

If you wonder how it looks after another month:

kjozsa@manta:~$ sudo hdparm -t /dev/nvme0n1

/dev/nvme0n1:
 Timing buffered disk reads: 4210 MB in  3.00 seconds = 1413.90 MB/sec

That's VERY far from the original 2200MB/sec. What can I do?
