HP ZBook 14 G1

Hello,

Last week I picked up a HP ZBook 14 G1 (W8 Pro), no HDD, ram or power supply for $20, with the exception that according to the previous owner the touchpad and keyboard didn’t work. I installed HDD, and ram and windows 10, and charged the battery. W10 found the correct touchpad driver, although sometimes slow to load for some reason, and the keyboard is defective for sure.. have another on the way via eBay. I have a Logitech keyboard/trackpad combo right now for it to do setup and what-not. It also allegedly has the FirePro w4100 gpu which does not seem to be detected by the system, even after I’ve double checked bios to make sure everything is selected for it to be seen.. my guess is maybe it is dead. Other than that, it seems to work fine once windows loads..

Specs:

HP ZBook 14 G1

Current Bios rev as of 2020

500gb ssd

8gb Ram

Win 10 Pro

everything else about the laptop is original to it. Just my addition of the HDD and ram.

so my questions are:

- any insight to incredibly long load time between press of power button to actually seeing the W10 loading screen? Once it gets to the loading screen (spinning circle under the HP logo) it goes quick. Windows loads fast… getting there is the issue for me.

- lists secondary battery as “not found”.. is this the CMOS battery or some other battery I don’t know about? Primary Battery shows “Charged, 100%”

- could the gpu not being detected indicate it is dead on the board? Not to concerned as I don’t plan to use it for anything much.

i figured for $20 it would be a good tinkering project, but this one has me stumped a bit. Thanks in advance!
