HP Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So basically, When my laptop adapter that came with the laptop broke, I had to use the charger the school provided for my school laptop which was 45W Max, My original was 45W but not max. After a while of using 45W max, my laptop would shut off at random times when i unplugged the charger. I bought a new one that had my voltage and everything, and it still turns off when I unplug it. It shows the error message about my battery being weak, I think it's because of the school laptop I've been using. Is there any way to fix it?

@AO123,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I recommend you update the BIOS on the computer from the below link and check if it helps.

If you continue facing the issue, I recommend you perform a test on the battery following the steps in the below article.

Hey, Thanks for the reply!

I've updated the BIOS I think, At first it started working and but it stops and then I have to unplug and plug the adapter back in and it'll start working but then stop. But this time when it stops charging it says plugged in, not charging and the adapter doesn't disconnect from the laptop, like the charger icon doesn't disappear. I ran a battery test and these are the results, I'm not sure what to do. It seems as if the BIOS update worked but now I need the adapter to constantly charge.

@AO123,

Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager.

Here is how you do it.

Step 1: Click the Windows “Start” button and right-click “Computer.”

Step 2: Click “Manage,” then “Device Manager.”

Step 3: Click the “Batteries” section. A list of devices will appear.

Step 4: Right-click the “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery” device and click “Uninstall.”

Step 5: Click the “Action” menu item and “Scan for Hardware Changes” to reinstall the driver.

Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.

Hello once again! Sorry for the trouble.

After I've restarted my laptop, the problem occured again. My adapter kept on charging and stop charging but this time it would actually go dim if it stopped charging so I know if it did stop. I tried updating my BIOS again but it was already up to date.

I don't know what else to do.

It also shuts down if I don't keep the adapter plugged in for a few minutes, and everytime I restart it it keeps on showing up the error saying that my primary battery is weak but I doubt that, my 45W Max adapter did something to it, I just don't know what.

@AO123,

I recommend you contact support as it looks like the hardware malfunction.

Here is how you can get in touch with tech support.

1)Click on this link – www.hp.com/contacthp/

2)Select the product type.

3)Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.

4)Select the country from the drop-down.

5)You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.

Cheers!
