They are not memory "cards"; instead, they are memory sticks -- and you have to remove and replace them.
Nothing is saved on them so no, this will not affect the data you have stored on your drive.
But ... if you are worried about those, then spend $10 to get a USB stick and 10 minutes to back those file off to it.
