HP-15-cc0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi everyone,

I have just bought l a crucial 1TB MX500 2.5" SSD drive for my HP pavilion 15-cc0xx. It already has a M.2 256 GB drive but it's too small for my need so I bought this larger drive. Annnd now I can't find where I need to connect it. I bought this drive on a recommendation of a local tech expert so I didn't check if this laptop actually takes this kind of drive. I feel like a bit of an idiot for not double checking, but here we are. There is a bay which seems to be for a hard drive but there are no connectors that would fit an 2.5" drive. Did I buy the wrong thing and need to send it back or do I just need to buy some parts? Sorry completely out of my depths with this!! Any help massively appreciated.

Hi:

Unfortunately, as you discovered, many HP notebooks that come with M.2 SSD's do not have the parts included to add a 2.5" drive.

So, you will have to see if you can find the parts you need somewhere.

Below is the link to the service manual.

HP Pavilion 15 Laptop PC (model numbers 15-cc000 through 15-cc099 and 15-cc500 through 15-cc599) Mai...

Chapter 3, page 26 has the list of parts you need to install a 2.5" drive.

The hard drive bracket is available using spare part number 926848-001.

The hard drive cable is available using spare part number     926844-001.

Neither of the parts are orderable from HP.

Check eBay, or this list of vendors HP supplies when they don't sell the parts.

HP Parts Store - HP Computer Parts - HP Printer Parts - Compaq Parts

If you can return the drive, you may want to consider replacing the 2.5" M.2 SATA SSD with a WD Blue 1 TB M.2 SATA SSD.

Hi Paul,

That is super helpful! I really appreciate your quick response and very useful information. I actually have another HP laptop and I will see if I can't get some parts off it. Once again, thanks you!

You're very welcome.

One more thing I forgo to ask, is there a reason other than needing to find parts tha you recommend the M.2 over a 2.5"?

Thank you!!

Hi:

That would be the only reason...if you can't find the parts you need and you need more storage space, your only option would be to replace the existing M.2 SATA SSD with one having a greater storage capacity.

A less important reason is adding another piece of equipment to your PC will add a little more heat and decrease battery time remaining between charges.

Oaky that makes sense! I have actually found several ebay listings for connectors so I am just going to go ahead with that. My laptop is generally plugged in so I am not too worried about it running down faster and more storage is always better in my books 😁

Thank you for your time and expertise!
