Hi there,
I have a HP pen/stylus and I cannot get it to pair with my laptop for some reason.
Furthermore, according to the pen's manual it should show a white LED light when fully charged (it doesn't on mine, i've left it charging for more than an hour). I'm not sure if this is a driver issue or pen issue.

Please help, thanks.

Hi @mjk134,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Looks like your Stylus pen is playing hide and seek with the laptop, don't worry we'll catch it.

1. Check if Your Laptop Supports HP Pen

First, confirm if your laptop supports HP Pen input:

  1. Press Win + R, type msinfo32, and hit Enter.
  2. Look for "Pen and Touch" under System Summary.
    • If it says "No Pen or Touch Input is available", your laptop does not support an active stylus.
    • If it says "Supports Pen Input", proceed to the next steps.

2. Reset and Pair the HP Pen

Reset the Pen

  • If your HP Pen has a button, hold it for 10-15 seconds to reset.
  • If it has a rechargeable battery, remove and reinsert it (if possible).

Enable Bluetooth & Pair the Pen

  • Go to: SettingsBluetooth & devicesAdd a device.
  • Press and hold the pen’s Bluetooth button (usually on the top or side) until the LED blinks.
  • Select the pen when it appears and click Pair.

3. Check HP Pen Battery & Charging Issue

  • Try using a different charging cable and port.
  • If the LED doesn't turn white when fully charged, the battery or charging circuit might be faulty.
  • If your pen uses AAAA (quadruple-A) batteries, replace them with new ones.

4. Update or Reinstall Drivers

  1. Go to Device Manager (Press Win + X, then select Device Manager).
  2. Expand Human Interface Devices and Bluetooth.
  3. Find any device related to HP Pen, HID Pen, or Stylus.
  4. Right-click and select Update driverSearch automatically for drivers.
  5. If updating doesn’t work, uninstall the driver and restart your laptop.

5. Check HP Support for Firmware Updates

  • Visit HP Support and enter your laptop model or HP Pen model.
  • Check if there are firmware updates for your pen.

6. Test the HP Pen on Another HP Device

  • If possible, try connecting the pen to another HP laptop that supports active styluses.
  • If it doesn’t work on another device, the pen may be defective.

Let me know how it goes! 😊
