The HP probook 450 g4 has an m.2 slot, but in the manual it states 256gb. Does this mean a 500gb ssd will not work? And what is the consensus on Sata3 vs nvme?

Hi:

Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates that only SATA M.2 SSD's are supported, not NVMe.

The drive capacities are just what Hp offered in the model series, not the maximum capacity supported.

Therefore, a 500 GB or 1 TB M.2 SATA SSD should work fine.
