Omen 15-5001na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My SSD recently failed. With help from this forum, I was able to diagnose this and find a compatible replacement, install it and reinstall my OS and software. The replacement is a Crucial MX500, 1TB SATA.

Everything has been going well over the last month until recently I started getting the occasional error suggesting SSD failure:

"Boot Device Not Found

Please install an operating system on your hard disk

Hard Disk (3F0)

F2 System Diagnostics"

This appears to occur when restarting from 'sleeping'. After a few attempts at rebooting is still comes up with the error. However, after disconnecting all peripherals (HDMI monitor, mini-display port monitor, and USB hub) then rebooting I've fortunately been able to restart successfully. When Windows starts it's as if nothing ever happened with any applications still open there as I left them when it went to sleep!!!

Therefore, I believe there is no issue with the SSD memory.

Is there something else I should be checking, such as BIOS, the seating of the SSD, or perhaps a fault on another component such as the SSD interface? What could be causing the issue, assuming it's not an SSD failure?

Thanks again.

@munrorunner,

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,

Let's start off by performing a Hard reset on the notebook

Before power resetting your computer, do the following:

  1. Disconnect or remove all peripheral devices. Start up the laptop and test the computer by itself, and then reconnect one peripheral device at a time.

  2. Turn over the computer and look for a battery compartment door.

I would suggest you run an extensive test on the hard drive from F2(Please capture the failure ID for further assistance).

  1. Start or restart the computer.
  2. Press F2 repeatedly during start up to enter the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI utility.
  3. Select Component Tests, then select Hard Drive, and then select Quick Test.
  4. Select drive C:.
  5. Click Run Once.
  6. Once the test completes, results are displayed on screen.

If the drive fails any of the tests, this would clearly indicate a possible hardware failure with the hard drive, write down the failure ID (24-digit code).

If the test passes, then the next option is to perform a system recovery either using the recovery partition or using the recovery media: Perform F11 recovery, or restore the system using HP recovery media.

  1. Restart the computer and press F11.

If you can't enter F11 recovery, perform a System recovery using:

HP supplied recovery media

  1. Select Troubleshoot.
  2. Select Recovery Manager
  3. Select System Recovery.
  4. Select Back up your files first (recommended).
  5. Select Next and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the recovery.

If you haven't created a set of recovery media, then the only option would be to order a set of recovery media for your PC.
