Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

Please follow the instructions in this link to test the drive: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00439024

If that is not possible, as is the case where the BIOS is too old to offer that function, then do the following:
1) When rebooting the PC, keep pressing F2 repeatedly. That should eventually bring up a Diagnostics menu.
2) Select the option to test the hard drive.

If the diagnostics fail, your drive has failed and will need to be replaced.

Please post back with the results.

Thank you all for your comments; could you please also help me to clarify one doubt?

If replace my drive how can I retain the original OS win 8 installed on my laptop?

Please share your thoughts.

Thanks,

Rajesg

Yes that is a potential problem or at least complication. A new hard drive would be clean and would need software. Did you make the HP restore disks when the laptop was new? Did it ever have Windows 10 on it? Can you still boot into Windows? Perhaps it is still possible to make the recovery disks or HP does stock them for most Windows 8 models and the HP recovery disks are the easiest way to restore Windows onto a blank drive.
