Hard drive upgrade

Hello, my hard drive is getting slower and the fan spins often and loudly. The laptop has a stock HHD 5400 speed HD.

I would like to upgrade it but I called HP support and they stated the only option is to get a new HHD drive from HP for $162.00 plus tax. The laptop is out of HP warranty but has 6 months left of a costco extended warranty.

I do not want the same problem and would like a SSD drive. It looks like this motherboard does not have a m.2 sataSSD slot.

So, can I get a after market SSD to fit into the standard HHD drive bay? I would like at Least 256 GB of storage and a faster boot for Windows.  I did create a Recovery disk to reinstall windows.

Yes, you can replace the mechanical HDD with a SSD.

I don't know if you have any specific brands in mind, but here is a very decent drive for a reasonable price...

Thank you for the response Paul,

I will follow through on the replacement. The HHD seems hard to remove by hand, I might have to buy/ make a plastic tool to remove it gently and remove the sata cable , reatach, reassemble and reboot with recovery disk.

I apprecaite the help. I wish HP support would have said they don't sell SSD but I could purchase form a third party.

I have that very same brand SSD in 2 of my HP desktop PC's and two of my HP notebook PC's.

I put them in a few years ago and I think I paid something like $65 each for the 240 GB size.

They have come down significantly in price.

Yes, these new notebooks are very difficult to take apart.  Gone are the convenient access panels on the bottom of the notebook.

You may want to buy a set of these pry tools...they are cheap enough and will hopefully do the job without marring or cracking the plastic housing.
