The right hinge on my laptop just broke when I tried to close it. A small metal plate connected to the visible hinge popped out of the bottom right corner, causing the screen to splinter in that area. The screen will now not stay upright without something for it to lean on, and the computer will not close properly. The cracks also worsen any time I try to move the screen now. The touchscreen also broken on the right side and the mouse is malfunctioning, making it difficult to write this complaint.
I have not misused or dropped the computer; indeed, I take very good care of it as it is my academic and professional lifeline. All I did was close my laptop during a class lecture, like I do dozens of times every day. I have seen dozens of similar complaints on this forum and elsewhere, and it is obvious that the problem lies with grossly negligent design, rather than my own misuse. I am obviously very upset about the multiple hundreds of dollars this will cost to be repaired. If HP has any sense of decency they will offer a free repair.
