Apparently there is a fingerprint scanner on this Elitebook 820 g3. I can't figure out how to use it. Windows hello doesn't recognise it. I downloaded and installed the latest synaptics drivers from HP, but nothing happened. I downloaded HP easypass and it didn't recognise it either. I keep touching the scanner from time to time with no reaction. I'm not sure if it shows up on my device manager, there are a lot of devices there just named synaptics device.
Is it even there? How do I activate it? I have the latest version of windows 10 too.
Thanks.

I can offer some limited advice...
The fingerprint reader, if one is present on your notebook, is located just outside of the keyboard area beneath the main keys on the right side.
Maintenance Guide > Page 12, item #3
The illustration shows the fingerprint reader as a "bar" - this, at least, is good news since the bar type is sometimes easier to use (get a reaction) than are some of the "box" type readers. (Personal opinion and NOT to be viewed as "fact".)
The driver / software website support page (download and information) for your fingerprint reader:
Synaptics WBF Fingerprint Driver
After you install the driver, Restart the computer and log in.
The Device Manager displays (includes) information for the fingerprint reader (when one is present on the machine and that device is detected by the Manager) - Look / Open the Device Manager and click open category BIOMETRICS.
If the Device Manager does not detect the fingerprint reader, it is not going to work.
Sometimes, though not usually after a computer is set up (current Windows Updates and all HP software installed), there is a missing or outdated driver that interferes with the detection or setup of some hardware. Go back to your Softpaq Download Manager software (SDM) and "Check for Updates" to make sure there are not HP drivers or software that need to be updated. If you do update any software - or if you run Windows Updates and install anything there - Restart the computer and log in.

Not sure whether Windows Hello will be able to let you add fingerprints (Settings > Accounts > Sign in Options). It is likely that it is still requred that before you add a fingerpint option that you must first add a PIN number. After you add the PIN number, Restart the computer and log in.

The very little said about how to use the fingerprint reader in the User Guide says to add / enroll fingerprints using the Client Security Software. Honestly, I don't remember that I had to do it this way on either the Zbook or the Elitebook x360 - but it has been a while so I might have forgotten any difficulties or details on the setup.

Hey,
thanks for all the help. After all it did not work out, and my scanner is still not recognized anywhere.
I have been having a lot of trouble with this laptop. Currently it is laying on my table in pieces after it suddendly announced that my ssd had no operating system. I'm working on that xd
Maybe I will come back to this later.
Thank you!

Well, that is bad news.
If you like, because the machine is in pieces, consider replacing the reader. I doubt it is necessary - the fingerprint reader hardware does not generally fail. Know that my comments are idle chatter and not intended to diagnose the problem.
Good Luck.
