Hi @D-kay,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To bypass the setup cartridge message on your HP Officejet 4610 and restore it to working order, follow these steps.

Reset the Printer

Performing a reset can sometimes clear the error.

  1. Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.
  2. Unplug the power cable from the back of the printer.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power cable and turn the printer back on.

Use Correct Setup Cartridges

HP OfficeJet printers often require setup cartridges during the initial setup. If your printer believes it hasn't completed this process, it may continue to prompt for these.

  • Ensure you're using genuine HP setup cartridges, specifically the ones that came with the printer. They are different from regular cartridges and are used only during the initial setup process.
  • If you do not have setup cartridges, you may need to contact HP support to obtain them.

Hard Reset

Try a semi-full reset to remove any lingering settings or errors:

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cable.
  2. Press and hold the “#” and “9” buttons on the printer at the same time.
  3. While holding these buttons, plug the power cable back in and turn the printer back on.
  4. Release the buttons once the printer powers up. This should perform a semi-full reset and may clear the error.

Update Printer Firmware

Ensure that the printer firmware is up to date:

  1. Visit the HP Support website and search for the latest firmware for your Officejet 4610.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to install any firmware updates.
  3. Sometimes, outdated firmware can cause cartridge recognition issues.

Reinstall Cartridges Properly

If you're using non-setup cartridges but still get the message:

  1. Remove the cartridges from the printer.
  2. Turn the printer off and unplug it for 30 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in and turn it on.
  4. Reinsert the cartridges securely.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
