I can't play CD/DVDs anymore

Example: Pavilion 17 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I don't know if Microsoft did an update or what, but about 2 weeks ago I was watching, listening, playing games, looking at old saved files on the CD/DVD player, and now nothing I put in the slot is recognized.  It keeps asking me to insert the disc when it's already in the slot and closed.  Is or has anyone else had this problem?  I've taken 2 movies or games back because they wouldn't play thinking that something was wrong with them.

@CindyLooWho

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,  I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  1. Step 1: See if the drive displays in BIOS.
  2. Step 2: Check the drive name in Device Manager.
  3. Step 3: Use the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter
  4. Step 4: Reset the computer power.
  5. Step 6: Clear the upper and lower registry filters.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
