OMEN by HP 870-224 Desktop PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just purchased two 8GB DDR4 RAM sticks, specifically the VenganceLPX 3000MHz. Unboxed them, removed the original stick, put the new sticks in, and booted up the PC. To my dismay, all I received was a blank screen, no start up. I powered it off, removed one stick from the second slot, and powered it on. Worked as usual. I tested how the PC reacted to each stick. As long as one stick is in the XMM3 port, it functions with no issue. Whenever a stick is inserted into the XMM1 port, it takes a **bleep**. I have tried cleaning out the port to no avail. I could not find any abnormalities either. The solutions I have come to I have not tried yet because I want to make sure I have all my options first. 1.Reboot the motherboard (either by a switch, or removing the battery, I'm not sure which for my motherboard.) 2.Just buy a 16GB stick of RAM and put it in XMM3, probably the easiest but if I can solve this faster than Amazon can ship it, that would be more favorable. 3.Replace the motherboard (there is a possibility that the motherboard has a defect, but I am unsure of how to check.

The specs of your machine is

            https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05389962

Which shows it supports

  • Dual channel (one DIMM per channel) memory architecture
  • Two DDR4 UDIMM (288-pin) sockets
  • Supports PC4-17000 (DDR4-2133)
  • Supports 4 GB and 8 GB UDIMMs
  • Supports up to 4 GB on 32-bit systems

Supports up to 16 GB (unbuffered) on 64-bit computers

It has 8GB now. Please use SAME existing RAM .

Regards.

The ram sticks are 8 gb each, as its stated above, I am running on 64 bit. So my capacity is 16 gb. No matter what, when the second slot is in use, my PC has issues.  I could remove the stick from port XMM3 and put it in XMM1 and it would not work anymore.
