HP Pavilion 15 au186tx
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I didn't do research on this notebook before purchasing. Now that I find it's only a 2 Cell battery and I tend to keep my notebook running for longer time, I wonder what happens if the battery dies faster. Is it removable/replaceable at all?

Hi:

Yes, there is a replacement battery but no optional ones (with more cells).

The part number is 849909-855

Check the service manual for the battery removal and replacement procedures.  Chapter 6, page 31

Feeling better. But:

1) This looks like a generic HP Pavilion Manual, does it fit my model i.e. 15' au186tx?

2) Is this part supposed to be removed/replaced by myself or by service centre engineer?

3) Cost?

That is the service manual pegged to your notebook's support page...

I would assume by the time you need a new battery, your notebook's warranty will be expired and it would cost you a fortune to have HP replace the battery, so you may as well try and do it yourself when the time comes.

I looked up the battery in the HP store website and they do not list it for sale yet as a spare part.

So cost:  Unknown at this time.

I did a general internet search by the part number and this non-HP vendor is selling it for $35 USD.

Interesting that you can buy it from a non-HP vendor but not from HP?  :Surprise:

Hmm. Interesting. And only in US. Wonder if I can manage to get it in Hong Kong after 2-3 years from now. (can't buy and store it, since it will die unused)
