HP Pavilion Gaming 15-cx0177TX 5EF40PA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi everyone,

I am considering upgrading my PCIe SSD to a 512gb one, and i bought it

but HP support agent told me that my laptop can only install  maximum 256gb SSD.

They quoted the HP Pavilion Gaming product manual which specifies as follows:

"Dual storage conffiguration:
16 GB PCIe M.2 Optane solid-state drive + 1 TB (7200 rpm) hard drive
256 GB PCIe, NVMe, TLC, M.2 solid-state drive + 1 TB (7200 rpm) hard drive
128 GB SATA-3, TLC, M.2 solid-state drive + 1 TB (5400 rpm) hard drive
128 GB PCIe, NVMe, TLC, M.2, solid-state drive + 2 TB (5400 rpm)
128 GB PCIe, NVMe, TLC, M.2, solid-state drive + 1 TB (7200 rpm)"

*here is link of the document:  http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05985643

Is it correct?

I think it's just available options of the product on the market, not the limitation

And i am wondering whether i can install a PCIe Gen3 x4 SSD to my laptop or not

Thank you all for reading my question.

Hi:

Yes, those drive sizes are just what HP offered in the model series.

Below is the link to the Crucial memory/SSD report for your notebook.

https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/pavilion-gaming-15-cx0177tx

They offer compatible NVMe drives up to 2 TB in capacity.

Crucial indicates the specs on their best drive offered for your notebook (the P5) has this interface...

Interface - PCIe G3 1x4 / NVMe
