Envy 360

This is my second try with the HP evny 360. I returned the first one because it kept locking me out, freezing up, and the fan would get so high pitched I had to leave the room. This current envy 360 runs warm/hot especially on the left side of the keyboard, the fan runs constantly, and on day fourteen it froze up. I called the Geek Squad for help and they had me do a hard shutdown. They suggested that I take it in for a diagnostic. I did, but they did not find any issues. I have no idea what to expect of a laptop. I am a returning student and have not needed one up until now. Everyone I have asked seems to think the fan should not be running constantly, nor should the key board be warm/hot at all. I use my laptop for school, email, and youtube. I work on Firefox/Google.  I am frustarted because this is the second Envy 360 I have had in a month and I unsure if this laptop is going to be reliable and wonder if I should return it and find another computer?

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Since it's a new computer windows will constantly try to update all latest drivers to the system in that event demand of CPU will be higher.

Firstly, perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: (do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating)

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

And, also run BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi.

I had to take my lap top to the Geek Squad again this afternoon. As I was working on an assignment the screen went black, the fan was running fast and loud, and my lap top was not  responding. They were able to get it working again and found that Firefox was running over 100%. ( I am not sure what the means). I was told to stop using Firefox to see if that elemenate any further problmes. I am back home with my laptop. I did follow your instructions for updates (there were two). I was not able to do the BIOS update because there are many choices and I do not know which to choose. I tried to use the chat feature. however is did not reconiize Bios Update. I am leary to start clinking on things that I do not understand. Is there a way to schedule an appoimtment with HP staff?
