HP Laptop 17-by1033dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi! First time posting here.

My HP Laptop 17-by1033dx has been upgraded to 16GB of RAM, and has slightly over 100GB remaining in hard drive space. Therefore, I was quite confused to see my keyboard inputs stalling after every 6-7 inputs or so. Sometimes, these pauses last only a second before resuming, other times, it's more like 2-3 seconds, and if I try to type during the pause, none of the inputs register.

After many failed attempts to make the system more responsive and hopefully fix this issue, I decided to test a generic USB keyboard to see if it would work any better, and it turns out that it did. USB keyboard inputs register just fine, without any stalling. It only happens with the built-in keyboard on this laptop.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for the keyboard, but this did nothing to alleviate my issue. Exhausted both mentally and physically, and without further option, I turn to you. Please, somebody tell me how to get my laptop's keyboard working normally again!

@Ultima_A_Maxim,

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues with the laptop keyboard.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

Update the BIOS and the chipset driver from the below link and check whether the issue is resolved.

If you continue facing the issue, then I recommend you run a test on the keyboard follow the steps in the below article to make sure whether it is hardware or a software issue.

I installed the new BIOS and chipset driver, but am still having the issue. I ran the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics app, and the computer passed every test in both Fast and Extensive scans. What should I do next?

I recommend you perform a system restore back to the date when everything was working fine on the computer.

Follow the steps in the below article to perform a system restore.

Unfortunately, I don't have a restore point from then. I must've cleared them out while trying to reduce junk with Disk Cleanup.

Any other suggestion?

Thank you for posting back.

I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. I would suggest performing system factory reset will put the computer back to the original factory settings in this way all corrupted and outdated software will be removed.

While doing the recovery there is an option to backup your personal files. If you have not previously done one now is a good time.

Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows )You can also contact HP support for assistance. They can remotely access your system to help alleviate difficulties: www.hp.com/contacthp/

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hello. I've come to check back in with you regarding my keyboard issue.

I currently have no means to backup my hard drive, and no way to obtain such. After a few days of research and weighing my options, I decided to use the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool to perform an "in-place upgrade", reinstalling Windows 10 without the need to sacrifice my data.

Upon the completion of this, I now notice that my keyboard is more responsive, albeit not fully. The pauses are less frequent, and last for less time. That said, it is still only good enough to type with, leaving keyboard control in games completely out of the picture.

Unless you have some other solution to this issue, this is unfortunately where things will have to end. I thank you both for at least trying to solve my problem.
