Hey,

I am having trouble with my keyboard.

Only a few keys on the keyboard work. This issue started a few days ago when I plugged in the HDMI cable to the TV, and it forced my laptop to shut down. When I turned it back on, most of the keys on the keyboard weren't working. I tried restarting my laptop but that didn't do anything. Please help.

Product Number: M3Z01EA#ABU

Thank You

@ASB987 Welcome to HP Forums Community!

I suggest you update the graphics card, BIOS, and chipset drivers using the HP website: Click here to find and install the same, once done, if the issue persists, here's what I need to know:

Did you drop liquid or have any accidents with the keyboard? while connecting the HDMI cable or damage it physically in any way?

Did you check with an alternate user account or an external keyboard to check if all the keys on that work?

  • Clean the keyboard with compressed air (blow compressed air in the gaps between keys). This removes some lint and dust.
  • Shut down the laptop, remove the battery and cable for a moment, press and hold the start button for 60 seconds
  • Replace the battery, restart the notebook,
  • if the issue persists, change the keyboard layout and check if it works: Click here for steps.
  • Also, run a hardware test to identify any issues with the keyboard, tap F2, select the component tests (Interactive)- keyboard & follow instructions on the screen.

Let me know how that pans out,

Hey there,
I've tried updating all three (graphics card, BIOS, and chipset drivers), however, it still doesn't work.

I haven't dropped any liquid, neither did I damage it physically in any way. I tried using an external keyboard and that works, and unfortunately, my laptop has a non-removable battery. I also tried troubleshooting it, but it says there's no problem.

Thank YouAnnotation 2019-05-28 105655.png

@ASB987 Good, the only thing left to do, is run the hardware diagnostics, and I suggest you perform the below steps as well, if not done already:

Run a hardware test to identify any issues with the keyboard, tap F2, select the component tests (Interactive)- keyboard & follow instructions on the screen, remove the external keyboard before trying this, and select fail if nothing works, the failed test should get you a failure ID, once captured, I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options:

follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on "Continue as guest".

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

I hope that answers your query,

If it did, simply select "Accept as solution", to help the community grow,
