I have hardware problem (not booting - flashing caps lock) with my 15-r013ca laptop. Going to buy new, however, I would like to get a few files off my hard drive. I have an opportunity to purchase a model 14s-cf3x. Could iI take the hard drive from my 15-r013, put it in the 14s-cf3 in order to get a few files off before scrapping it

The problem with what you want to do is that while the notebook may support a 2.5" drive, there are no parts to connect a hard drive in the notebook unless the model you are buying comes with one, and most of them do not nowadays.
The service manual indicates the original model series supported 2.5" drives.
You may want to buy an external USB to SATA cable and see if you can get the data off the old hard drive that way.
