any recommendations on brands, i think its a samsung ram card currently installed

Hi Gordon,

Your notebook supports max 32GB of DDR4 2400MHz RAM (2x16GB)

You can get from your preferred brand.

Example:

https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/hp-omen-17-an051na#memory

On page 43of service manual you can see the steps to install the RAM

You can also upgrade the M2 SSD in the notebook if you have not already done so.
