Hi @CLJ2006,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I understand how concerning this is, especially when your HP 14-cf2112wm won’t charge or power on. The brief orange light indicates the system detects power momentarily but fails to maintain it, which usually points to one of these issues:
- Faulty AC adapter or power cord
- Battery failure or loose connection
- Motherboard or charging circuit fault
- Corrupted BIOS or CMOS issue
Here’s the troubleshooting process:
Step 1: Hard Reset
- Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
- Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the AC adapter only (leave the battery out if removable).
- Try powering on.
Step 2: Check AC Adapter
- Ensure you’re using the original HP adapter.
- If possible, test with another compatible HP adapter.
Step 3: Inspect Charging Port & LED Behavior
- If the orange light blinks briefly and goes off, it often indicates battery or system board failure.
- Continuous blinking patterns can indicate specific error codes (e.g., 3 long, 2 short = BIOS corruption).
Step 4: BIOS Recovery
If the laptop powers on briefly but doesn’t boot:
- Hold Windows + B, then press Power for 2–3 seconds.
- Release Power, keep holding Windows + B until the BIOS recovery screen appears.
Step 5: HP Hardware Diagnostics
If you can get it to power on:
- Press Esc → F2 → Run Component Tests (Battery and AC adapter).
If Still Dead
This likely requires service for battery or motherboard replacement.
