Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello

Since a few days, my laptop started shutting down even tho the battery still had 40%. Then, when I restart, it says the battery is completely drained.

Now, my laptop is about two years old so it is possible that the battery is getting weaker. But to me this does not imply that it should shut down like that. Also when I test the battery capacity, it says it's very weak and only about 30-40% of the original capacity. I somehow find this hard to believe, as I had no problems back in august and I remember the battery lasting me quite a long time.

Recent laptop usage:
In august everything worked fine. Battery life was still very good! Wouldn't dare to estimate how long I could use it for when fully charged, but I noticed no extreme drainage.

Then the first weeks of September I played some games. For this I always remove my battery because otherwise the laptop gets way too hot. I feel like, maybe this is where it went wrong. But still, I feel like there should be a solution for it shutting down like this.
Now this week I had a lot of online classes and I noticed the battery going down rapidly. I blamed it on the classes, thinking it needed a lot of power. Now the last few days, the laptop started shutting down with no warning whatsoever.

Is there anything I can do to stop the unannounced shutting down? Also, if I'm sure its just the battery being bad I have no issues buying a new one, but I won't buy one until I'm sure this would solve the issues.

Thank you in advance

If the battery test indicates the battery is weak,

If the battery is two years old (certainly a candidate for replacement based on age),

If the battery no longer works and your computer "dies",

You should likely replace the battery.

We cannot, in any circumstances at all, guarantee results.

The evidence certainly suggests that the battery needs to be replaced.

None of the service guides for your system are showing up in my search...

Suggestion:  Use PartSurfer and your Serial Number to track down the necessary part number.

If all else fails, open the case and look at the part number on the battery...

Find / Check for parts at PartSurfer / HP Parts Store

PartSurfer might be able to tell you exactly which parts came with your device.

Open PartSurfer

  • Select your Country
  • Enter the device Product Number , Serial Number, or Part Number in the Quick Search box
  • HINT: To see a system-specific list, replace the Product Number with your device Serial Number
  • Items accompanied by a tiny box in the Add-to-Cart column are available for purchase

Parts marked as "n/a" are not available from HP.

Parts marked as available for purchase might be available from:  HP Parts Store

OR

If HP does not provide the part for retail purchase,

Use your search engine to find a compatible replacement at your favorite online store.
