Hey,

I recently (26 and 27 January) did these two update in my HP pavilion gaming Windows 11. After the update there seems some issue with my laptop.  My laptop works fine when on AC power, however when i remove the charger it starts lagging a lot. However, when I restart my PC everything comes back to normal and pc works super fine as always. The issue is only when I remove the charger after which my laptop starting lagging a lot. When I checked the task managar it looks like when i remove the charger, the CPU utilization doesnt exceed 10% whichever heavy software you run; however the GPU utilization is perfect. When I restart my PC everything comes back to normal and works as usual. I checked the Processor power management in Control Panel but it look as usual with no changes.

What is the issue can anyone help me out? I tried resetting the BIOS to default but it doesn't work.

Your issue seems to be related to power management settings, particularly how Windows is handling CPU performance when switching from AC power to battery. Here are a few things you can try:

 

1. Check Processor Power Management Settings

Your screenshot shows the Minimum Processor State is set to 80% on battery. Try setting it to 100% on battery and see if that improves performance.

Steps:

  • Open Control PanelPower Options.
  • Click on Change plan settings for the active plan.
  • Select Change advanced power settings.
  • Expand Processor Power ManagementMinimum Processor State.
  • Change On battery from 80% to 100%.
  • Click ApplyOK.

2. Check Windows Power Mode

Windows might be automatically switching to a power-saving mode when you unplug the charger.

  • Click on the Battery icon in the taskbar.
  • Make sure the power mode is set to Best Performance instead of Balanced or Battery Saver.

3. Check HP Power Management Software

  • Some HP gaming laptops have built-in performance tuning software (e.g., HP Command Center or OMEN Gaming Hub).
  • Open the software and look for power settings. Ensure that the system isn’t throttling CPU performance on battery.

4. Update/Reinstall Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework (DPTF)

DPTF helps in regulating CPU performance based on temperature and power conditions. A faulty driver could cause CPU throttling.

  • Open Device Manager (Press Win + X → Device Manager).
  • Expand System devices.
  • Find Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework (if available).
  • Right-click → Uninstall device (check Delete driver software if available).
  • Restart the laptop and let Windows reinstall the driver.

5. Try Disabling Intel CPU Throttling

Some gaming laptops limit CPU performance on battery to extend battery life. You can try disabling this:

  • Open Command Prompt (Admin) and run:
    powercfg -attributes SUB_PROCESSOR PROCTHROTTLEMIN -ATTRIB_HIDE  
  • Now go to Advanced Power SettingsProcessor Power Management.
  • Look for Processor Performance Throttling and set it to Disabled.

6. Try a Clean Boot

If a third-party application is interfering with performance, try a clean boot:

  • Press Win + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
  • Go to the Services tab → Check Hide all Microsoft services → Click Disable all.
  • Go to the Startup tab → Click Open Task Manager.
  • Disable all startup apps.
  • Restart the laptop and check if the issue persists.

7. Check BIOS & Chipset Drivers

If the issue started after a recent update, ensure that your BIOS and chipset drivers are up to date:

  • Go to HP’s official website and download the latest BIOS and chipset drivers for your model.
  • Install them and restart.

8. Test with a Different Power Plan

  • Go to Power Options in Control Panel.
  • Click Create a new power plan.
  • Select High Performance, name it something like "Test Plan."
  • Set processor settings to 100% on battery.
  • Save changes and test.
