HP Recommended
Envy Ultrabook 4-1200eo
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP laptop has random shutdowns while the charger is plugged in. The charging LED is indicateing that the laptop is charging, but the battery stays at 0 %. If i pull the power chord, the pc shuts down.

At each startup i get a blue screen where i need to choose language and keyboard layout. Then it sends me to windows recovery. If i choose to boot it often make a disk scan. The hard drive could be broken . I have used the HP hardware diagnostics UEFI tool and the hard drive passed.

I made a clean windows 10 install to try to fix the problem but no luck.

I used the HP hardware diagnostics UEFI tool  to test the battery and i got the following failure id:

pgfbxw-66x973-xd7ww1-c09803

What does that failure id mean? Is the battery dead?

I lost my charger a couple a motnhs ago and bought a new one. Could that be the issue?

At the moment the laptop is unusable due to the shutdowns, that can happend every10 sec or after serval hours of use. I used the laptop two months ago with no charging or shutdown issues.

Thanks.

Maintenance and Service Guide says you need battery part number 681949-001
https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-4-1200-ultrabook/5330911/model/5349615/manuals?sku=D0Y5...

HP Parts shows none in stock. You can do a search using the part number and probably find several sources.

The error codes indicates a bad battery . Not sure if that is the root of all your problems but I have seen a bad battery cause all sorts of issues on some laptops while others have none.

My issue is an HP Pavilion less than 2 years old and the battery only charges to 46%.  HP diagnostic tests tell me the battery is okay. I have replaced battery drivers, recalibrated the battery and updated the BIOS to F.48 Rev-A. I tried a different A/C charger. There is an earlier BIOS update that specifically mentions a battery fix. Should I try reverting to the earlier revision (F.45 Rev-A) ? This sure seems like a software problem since I am told the battery is functioning okay, but clearly is not.

@oldener

BIOS updates usually are a roll-up of all previous fixes. Did you test the battery using HP Diagnostics in Windows or the F2 System Diagnostics. F2 is more reliable than the one run during Windows.

Immediately after powering on start tapping the Esc key. This will open a menu where F2 System Diagnostics is an option. Tap F2 key and open Component tests.

I have tried the F2 diagnostics several times and got a clean bill of health each time. However, I tried it again after your reply and, sure enough, this time the battery failed the test. I notice I am now down to 37% max charge so perhaps it must be really low before a failure is registered. Although disappointed in my HP product, a thumbs up to CherylG for her expertise
