HP Stream 14
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My computer is currently on windows 1607, and the most recent is 1903. I've been teyinf for the last 3 weeks to update this computer. It says that it doesn't have snough space, even when i factory reset it to give it a clean slate. its supposed to have ~32 GB of space, but around 21 GB is used on system files. Even with around 9 GB of space, it doesn't want to update. I even gave it a 64 GB USB Drive to use, and it tells me that it doesn't have enough space. When it starts to finally update, it fails over and over again. These computers aren't the best, as when i recieved it, the battery was ruined and wouldn't charge, which isn't on my end since i charged it for around 8 hours before using.

A factory reset is not a fix because it will immediately start doing Windows Updates, because you set it back in time, and very soon, will fill up the small drive space, again.

Here are some things you can do to recover some of the disk space:

http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-clean-up-winsxs-folder-in-windows-10/

Also, the community Win10 Forums has the following suggestions:
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/83441-free-up-drive-space-windows-10-a.html

In addition, I have found the utility Cleanmgr+ to have LOTS of options for removing Windows junk, including log files. I use it practically every day. You can get it from here: https://www.getclone.app/download/category/11-cleanmgr

Also, there is a freeware app known as Wise Disk Cleaner. I use it every day to get rid of junk files: https://www.wisecleaner.com/wise-disk-cleaner.html

Furthermore, when you use Windows Update, it will typically need 20GB of free space, which you are NOT going to get, even with the tips above.

So, the two things you need to do to prepare for the upgrade are these:
1) Provide extra working space
2) Create Win10 media to hold the upgrade source files

In terms of the first, you need a 32GB USB stick to provide the working space for the Upgrade.

In terms of the second, you need to create Win10 Media from this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10

Note that when you go do download and build install media, the tool defaults to matching what is already installed on your PC (as in, Home for Home, 64-bit for 64-bit). While you CAN change these settings, do NOT. If you do, the resulting media will be different and will force you to enter a NEW product code!

--------------------------------

Once you have both the USB stick and the Win10 media, do the following:
1) Insert them both into the PC
2) If the Win10 Upgrade doesn't start automatically, then open the drive containing the install media, right click on setup.exe and choose Run as Administrator.

This will start the Win10 Upgrade -- and be advised, this could take a LONG time!
