20 months after purchase, the left hinge is broken. HP only gives one year warranty (how convenient for them). I have never dropped the laptop or used it in any way that would be damaging. I rarely open or close it. Now, I can close it, but while opening it the left hinge does not want to turn, which makes the plastic frame start to rip off the screen and make popping noises.

Searching this forum just a couple minutes shows this is an extremely common issue with several of HP's laptops. "Left hinge broken" gives hundreds of results. It is obvious this is a design flaw, and shows HP is unconcerned by the poor quality of their products. Real trash. I hope this will not cost a fortune. It would be insulting to pay a large sum of money just to use a laptop more than a year.

What should I do to repair my product the cheapest way? Does anyone have experience of letting a third party or local laptop reparation center fix this issue?

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
