Hey thank you for reading,

Laptop:

HP ENVY 17t-k000 CTO Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)

This doesn't happen every time the computer starts up. It's a loud fan-like noise - seems to be coming from the back left corner (by the power button). Want to find out what part is malfunctioning, any help would be appreciated. Youtube below shows it happening.

Hi,

The problem is the fan, at startup it begins at full power and then when the bios kicks in it slows down.

  • Clean the vent holes with compressed air, when computer is off and "cold" (it could be that an accumation of dust is causing the fan to make the noise you are hearing), see if it helps.
  • Open laptop and clean fan with compressed air and see if helps.
  • Replace fan (you can find them on ebay or many online stores for cheap)

Let me know if you need further help,

David
