Hello great people, Some days back I bought a second hand HP elitebook 840 G3 with Core i5-6300U processor for my nephew. Now I want to upgrade its disk from HDD to SSD as he complaints about the speed, but I could not really figure out whether it supports an M.2 NVMe SSD too or just M.2 SATA SSD as it has an M.2 slot on its motherboard (for which I have attached pictures too including my motherboard`s specs).
please help me
Regards and Happy New Year 2023

Hi:
Happy New Year to you too!
According to chapter 1, page 2 of the service manual, NVMe SSD's are supported.
This forum member installed a NVMe SSD in his 840 G3 and reported that it worked fine.

Hello Paul_Tikkanen, Thank you there for the quick response.
I have 6th generation core i5 processor, would it still support? as I came across some videos by some Indian youtubers saying, NVMe is supported from 8th generations onwards.
regards

You're very welcome.
The person in the post I linked you to indicated that he installed a Samsung 980 in his 840 G3 notebook and it worked fine.
All 840 G3's only support a maximum of an Intel 6th gen core processor.
