Hello,
I have a notebook HP-14s-fq0216ng and there is an M.2 NVME slot on the mainboard. I have installed an M.2 NVME memory card, but it is not recognized by the system. Does the slot on the mainboard still need to be activated? And how should I proceed?

Hi:
The 14s-fq0xxx notebooks with the 64 GB eMMC drives only support M.2 SATA SSD's and not NVMe.
This information is not mentioned in the service manual, but many forum members have had this problem.
The other problem is that the notebook will not boot from any other drive but the 64 GB eMMC drive, so you would only be able to use the M.2 SATA SSD for storage.

It really is nice when we are not expected to guess what something is in terms of specifications.
What in the world is a M.2 NVME memory card?
That is something I have never heard of. Does it have a brand and part number?
Have you invoked the DiskPart utility at the command line to see if it is seen by the operating system?

It doesn't matter what brand NVMe SSD you install in the above-mentioned model, or ANY 14s-fq model with a 64 GB eMMC drive.
NO NVME SSD will work.
Just do a search in the forum 14s-fq M.2 and see the huge number of posts that have reported this problem.
Here are two such posts. In the second one, I linked other posts.

It is interesting that Kingston memory sells M.2 NVMe SSD products for the laptop series.
Another strange phenomenon.
I don't doubt what you have said.

I'm thinking that memory/SSD sellers are going by the specs and perhaps what the service manual indicates.
Nowhere in the service manual does it mention what I have written regarding the 64 GB eMMC exception.
If the notebook had come with a 128 GB M.2 SATA SSD and the same processor, a NVMe SSD would have worked fine.
This only happens on the 64 GB eMMC models and the other thing I found out is that you cannot boot from the M.2 drive in models with the 64 GB eMMC flash drives.

Yes. It is a peculiar setup which is unexplained.
