Hi,

the product specs says max is 12GB

the service manual says max is 12GB

the HP operating system check tool says its 32GB

which one is correct?

Hi:

 

The Crucial memory report states 2 x 8 GB is the max.

The processor and chipset your notebook has can support 2 x 16 GB of memory, but that doesn't always mean it will.

Hi Paul, thanks for the respond. Would there be any software tool out there that can test the hypothesis that 2x16GB will work, short of buying the ram and plugging it to try? Would there be chance that Bios is the bottleneck to clip the maximum memory and upgrading bios will work?

I do not know of any tools you can use that would give an ironclad guarantee of how much memory would work.

 

The HP software report would be the only thing that I know of.

 

Usually the Crucial memory report will provide the maximum memory allowed and I am surprised that it didn't report 32 GB was supported.
