Hi! I have HP15 (15-ab293cl) laptop and it came with a 12GB RAM and I want to upgrade the RAM. However the HP site says max RAM on this machine is 16GB. Can someone please confirm if it is possible to install 32GB or 64GB of usable RAM?

Hi:
Since the service manual and even the Crucial memory report for your notebook both indicate that 2 x 8 GB of memory is the max, I would say the odds are against you for 32 GB to work and I don't know of any memory manufacturer that made 32 GB DDR3 memory modules.

A 16 GB DDR3 memory module would be very expensive to risk the very high chance of it not working.

So, could I just buy 1x8GB module to replace the 4GB or would I have to buy 2x8GB Modules?

Yes, you can buy an 8 GB module and replace the 4 GB one.
That usually works more often than not.
Get the DDR3L-1600 8 GB memory chip listed in the Crucial report and it should work with the memory chip HP installed.
