Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to verify how many slots I have for memory and the max RAM I can install.  Also trying to figure if I should buy DDR4-2400 or DDR4-2666 or DDR4-3200

Hi:

Below is the link to the Crucial memory report for your notebook.

https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hP---Compaq/hp-17-by1062st

According to the report, it can support 2 x 16 GB of memory.

You can buy any of the memory speeds you listed, but anything faster than 2400 MHz is going to bridge to 2400 MHz, because that is the fastest speed the processor your notebook has can run the memory at.

Below is the link to the service manual.  Chapter 1 has the memory upgrade info, and chapter 6 has the memory removal and replacement procedure.

HP indicates the max memory is 2 x 8 GB, but almost all of the time, the Crucial memory report is correct.

I apologize.  I posted this message to the wrong computer I was trying to upgrade.  My question about the 16gb versus 32 gb was related to this post and not the other.

Thank you for your reply.  I bought the 32gb as suggested, but when I look at task manager, I only see 16gb in use.  Says 3.8gb in use and 12.0 gb available.  But under committed I see 3.8/25.4 and 2.2gb cached.  Is there a bios setting or something else that needs to be adjusted?

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, in this particular case, it appears the Crucial memory report is incorrect, which is unusual.

You will have to return the memory for a refund, because there are no settings to adjust.

I'm surprised the PC even booted up if it didn't support 32 GB of memory.

One thing you can check before you do that is this...

Run 'msconfig', go to 'boot' tab, click on 'advanced options', and untick 'maximum memory,' if it is checked.

Then restart the PC.

If the max memory box was not checked, then the service manual was correct-- 2 x 8 GB was the max.

My Apology once again.  Your advice and crucial's was 100% accurate.  I just didn't install the 2nd chip properly and now it shows 32gb being used.  Thank you very much for your help with both of my post!

You're very welcome.

Glad that is all it was.

Sometimes you think you installed the memory in there firmly and it's a good thing you double checked it.
