L6D38AV (HP ENVY Notebook - 15t-q300 CTO (ENERGY STAR))
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I am trying to replace my laptop's RAM (Product #: L6D38AV) as I accidently destroyed one of the modules (I suspect ESD damage).  It has two slots each with an 8GB, 1600 MHZ, PC3L-12800 DDR3L module.  I am researching potential upgrades to the RAM, but I need documentation on the motherboard.

Using Part Surfer, I determined the board on this PC are part numbers "812190-501" or "812190-601".  I'm not sure which of these 2 is actually on my laptop though.  I also ran the following in command prompt to determine the board:

Ultimately, what I want to find out is:

1.) How much RAM can the board/laptop can handle?

2.) What's the maximum RAM speed the board/laptop can handle?

According to the Maintenance and Service Guide, the answer to (1) seems to be 16GB (of DDR3L only); the answer to (2) seems to be a maximum speed of 1600 MHZ, dual channel:

But, I would like to verify this.  Can anyone point me to any documentation regarding the motherboard on this laptop?

Hi:

The only documentation available is the service manual.

The crucial memory report indicates the max is 2 x 8 GB of DDR3L-1600.

Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | hp - compaq | envy 15 | ENVY 15t-q300 CTO | Crucial.com

That would be the fastest speed your notebook' processor can run the memory at.

It is highly unlikely the board can support more than what the manual & crucial memory report indicate.

If you want to feel more confident regarding the amount of memory your PC can support, you can do this...

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator. This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacity and hit enter. There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.
