Pavilion 14-ce0505sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi everyone,

I thought I should share my experience with my HP laptop in case it may be useful for others.

I bought an HP Pavilion 14-ce0505sa laptop in December 2018 and could not be happier with it. Fast, stylish and user-friendly. However, only 18 months after the purchase - in June 2020 - the screen started going black in several minutes after booting. Then the laptop stopped booting at all.

I took it to two repair shops in London and they both told me the motherboard had failed. They also strongly advised against replacing it as the cost would be almost equivalent to buying a new laptop. Both told me this was a widespread problem with this model - one of the shops had had another customer with the same model and same failure a couple of days before me!

A quick google search tells me that motherboard failure does seem to be common across different HP laptop models: for example, https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Motherboard-Failure/td-p/680134... https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Spectre-x360-power-problem-mot... https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Where-to-find-a-Motherboard-fo...; etc.

This is very frustrating. Over the past 6 months I have been using my desktop computer and hoping that I will be able to find a shop that will replace the motherboard at an acceptable price, but clearly this is not happening so I will be buying another (probably non-HP) laptop.

I am posting this as I think HP should be aware of the problem and others facing it may also find this helpful.

Update - got a message from @The_Fossette saying the local team (in the UK) will be in touch within 4 days - not heard from them yet.

Absolutely useless HP response - bought a laptop from another manufacturer now.

I have had exactly the same issue with my HP Pavillion 14-ce0505sa HP  and I can't get anyone to sort it out.  I have tried contacting HP and apart from offering to fix it for £400 I've heard nothing else.  You would have thought that they could at least provide a new motherboard as the machine is only 2 years old.
