HP Envy x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I recently updated all my drivers in my laptop i just bought a couple of months ago.

My FingerPrint Reader is not working anymore.

I have tried reactivating it but it now says its unavailable.

I tried to downgrade it but i can not find that option in Device Manager

It is fully up to date and even restarted my laptop just in case

Please help asap

You stopped short of telling us which of the many HP Envy x360 models you have.

From the information you provided, and a bit of guesswork,

You might need to install / update the fingerprint driver compatible with Windows 10 - V1909.

Try / Consider

Information files - please read

sp100344.cva

sp100344.html

Driver Supports...

[Devices]
USB\VID_06CB&PID_00C9="Synaptics WBDI SGX"

Device Manager - Biometrics Information

  1. Device Manager > View “Devices by type” AND “Show hidden devices”
  2. Open category Biometric devices
  3. Look for and Right-Click on the fingerprint reader device > Properties
  4. Tab Details
  5. Under Property, “Device description”
  6. Under Value, look for the PID number

Example

Device_Manager_Biometrics_2Device_Manager_Biometrics_2

If the information file confirms a match to your fingerprint reader hardware,

then continue...

Fingerprint Driver - Remove and Install

Preparation

➡️  Create a backup of all your most critical / sensitive files to other than on the computer.  For example, copy the files to your Cloud backup. to a USB stick, "Somewhere" you can access the files should the computer become unavailable.

➡️  Create a Restore point before you make changes to your computer's software and setups.

(How to) Create Restore Point

Stop all programs:  Browsers, games, Applications, etc.

Control Panel > icon view > System > System Protection

Click (Highlight) your main disk (C) > Select Create a Restore Point

OR

(As available)

Create a restore point now for the drives that have system protection turned on

Create

Fingerprint Driver

Download and Save the Driver >  sp100344.exe

  • Download and Save the fingerprint reader driver to your computer
  • In the Device Manager > Biometrics, add the step in the Uninstall to include the Delete  of the existing fingerprint driver
  • Restart the computer
  • Log in using your password or PIN
  • Open File Explorer
  • Navigate to the folder in which you saved the installation package (likely Downloads)
  • Right-Click on the installation package and "Run as Administrator" to install the software
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Hi @Dragon-Fur

I can not see a PIPD Value

I currently own the HP ENVY - 13-aq0000na

It so happens that the suggested Driver is the correct one for your computer and the driver is also available in your Software and Drivers support pages.

How to tell?

Open your computer's Support Website for HP ENVY - 13-aq0000na

Open category Software, Driver and Firmware

Open Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices

Open page  Synaptics Fingerprint Driver (Windows 10 v1809 / v1903 / v1909)

What does that mean?

It means that I cannot offer much more than I have done.

  • If you have already updated your other HP software and  drivers. separately updated the BIOS, and check / updated Windows Updates,
  • If you have (if possible) removed / deleted the existing fingerprint driver (and Restart the computer),
  • If you have confirmed the Windows PIN login is still set and still functions (PIN is required for fingerprint setup),
  • If you install the new / correct fingerprint driver and Restart the computer,
  • Then the fingerprint reader should work.

The BIOS on this consumer grade computer does not (in my limited experience with subject) have any ability to control or disengage the fingerprint reader.  In other words, the fingerprint reader is enabled by default and is not subject to control in the BIOS.

If I can think of anything else, I will post back.
