When I sometimes boot my laptop, I receive a message saying something along the lines of "warning, battery low. Replace for optimum performance - error 601" or something like that. I've done some looking around online, and found two different ways to check the battery. The first way is through the diagnostics tool (through the HP pc hardware diagnostics tool), and the second one using the HP support assistant. Both of these tests resulted in a 'pass' - it said my battery wasn't in need of replacing, and that it was roughly 57% of the design capacity.

HOWEVER, in addition to regularly receiving the "critical battery level, replace for optimum performance etc etc" messages, when not plugged in my battery lasts basically no time at all. Even in the time it's taken to write this short piece the battery has dropped 10-20%. This gives me conflicting ideas on how to proceed. I'm thinking I could just get a new battery to play it safe, but then again I'd rather not fork out £55 if I don't have to.

I'd greatly appreciate any insight into how to move forward with this issue :).

Thanks.
