I fail to understand why a system you bought only two years ago came with Vista preloaded. Any system that recent would have had Window 10 -- at the oldest -- preloaded.
As to replacing the motherboard -- the HP warranty is only for 12 months and your PC is nearly two years old. So, unless you purchased an extended warranty or a Care Pack, it is no longer covered under the warranty, so HP would not replace the motherboard.
