My screen is becoming detached form the backing on one side.  No issues with using the notebook yet.  Looking for way to safely reattach it.

Product series introduced in 2017

 

It sounds like the hinge is failing - or has failed.

 

The first thing to do is to leave the notebook opened - opening / closing / forcing the hinge can - and will likely - make things worse.

 

The recommended fix is to have the notebook repaired either by HP or through a licensed (and experienced) repair house.

 

For reference 

Self-repair to the kick-stand / hinge is possible.

Whether you want to do this depends on your need and skill set.
