It sounds like you're dealing with two frustrating issues—your laptop screen isn't working properly, and the battery drains extremely fast. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to address both problems.
Fixing the Screen Issue
Check for Loose Connections
- If you're using an external monitor, ensure the cable is securely connected.
- Try unplugging and reconnecting the display cable.
Adjust Display Settings
- Press Win + P and select PC screen only to ensure the laptop is using its built-in display.
- If the screen is dim or flickering, go to Settings > System > Display and adjust brightness.
Update Graphics Drivers
- Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
- Expand Display adapters, right-click your graphics driver, and select Update driver.
Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn off the laptop, disconnect the charger, and remove the battery (if removable).
- Hold the power button for 30 seconds, then reconnect everything and turn it on.
Fixing the Battery Drain Issue
Check Battery Health
- Open Command Prompt as administrator and type:
powercfg /batteryreport - This generates a battery report in C:\Windows\System32\battery-report.html. Open it to check battery health.
Reduce Power Consumption
- Lower screen brightness and disable keyboard backlight.
- Close unnecessary background apps using Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
Adjust Power Settings
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options and select Power Saver mode.
- Click Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings and reduce Processor Power Management.
Update BIOS & Drivers
- Visit HP’s official website and check for BIOS updates and battery driver updates.
Run HP Battery Diagnostics
- Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly to enter HP Diagnostics.
- Select Battery Test and follow the instructions.
