Need A Replacement Battery - Part Store Not Very Helpful
03-25-2021 01:56 PM

My battery is dying and I need a replacement. However, finding a replacement for this model is proving to be very difficult. The service manual lists two batteries with the following part numbers:
917724-856
L08855-856
I tried searching for both of these in the parts store. The first one is on backorder. The second one is apparently "not orderable in the HP Parts Store"?
Can someone help me out here? I'm not even sure which one I should try and get, or if they're basically interchangeable. For the one on backorder, roughly what kind of wait time might I expect? And if I have to get the other one, does anyone know where else I might be able to find it?

Vendors (including HP) may have to wait for months to produce a batch of batteries therefore when is very hard to say. You can use third party vendor(s) which stock batteries such as
https://www.newegg.com/p/1B4-07Y6-00048
https://www.newegg.com/p/16J-026C-02515
or wait for available ones from HP part store.
Regards.

Your machine is a CTO machine very hard to know. Your machine is on the following list
https://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?searchText=917724-856
also on the following list
https://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?searchText=L08855-856
The first one is better, longer life between charges.
Regards.

What exactly does "CTO" stand for anyway? I tried Google and I'm pretty sure "Chief Technology Officer" is not the answer here, lol.
Can anyone tell me if these two are interchangeable? Because if so I'd rather get the one with the longer charge, but I don't want to risk messing something up.

CTO is for Customized To Order or Configured To Order. Those machines are only available in the US and normally we can select to build a machine from a list of available part to order.

Wow, I mean... yeah, I got it sort of "customized" but IIRC there were only a couple options at the time. I know the battery wasn't one of them, lol. Thanks for the answer though.
