I failed to mention that I was not able to turn the computer on. And I did not have any tools to take the laptop apart to see the battery model, and I could not find the battery model on the HP website. I thought it was the battery as there were no lights, would not charge, would not even turn on with power cord plugged in. Power cord was working properly. I figured it was the battery, but on more research found this on HP community posts:

"As it is not powering on (chances are less) but could be due to excess static build up and at times a power drain has helped cure it and get back to working as well." "Please disconnect all the devices and cables connected to your computer including the power cable and then press and hold the power button for about 20 seconds and connect the power cable back again and try to power on the computer."

I followed these instructions and the laptop powered back on and is working. I do appreciate the links to the documentation. Thanks
