Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Product name : OMEN by HP Laptop

Product number : Y3W78EA

Operating System: Windows 10 64 bit

Total memory : Upgraded to 32GB

Processor name : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz

Main Boot Drive: SanDisk SD8SNAT-128G 128GB M.2 2280 SATA Solid State Drive

My Question is: I would like to upgrade this to an NVME drive lets say 1TB samsung 970 evo plus or 980 evo plus. Can I install such a drive and at which speed will it run at ? can it run at PCIe x3 speed suppoted by the CPU or will it be capped at the SSD speed rendering the upgrade useless ?

Your laptop supports PCIe NVMe (TLC) M.2 SSD products.

As far as the speed at which it will run, check the specifications of the SSD that you buy.

I really can't see how upgrading from a 128 GB SSD to a 1TB SSD could in any way be considered useless.

Hey, thanks for the replay.

What I meant to ask  was, does this M.2 port support NVMe -which you have answered- and what is the speed that this port support? does it support the full Pcie 3.0 that is supported by the processor or is it capped by any means.

regards.

That is not the kind of data that HP provides, so I don't have port speed data for you.

Use CPU-Z or another utility to see what speeds you get.

You can use AI to search the web to see what it says.
